Making a Tape

things we need

  • 2 headphone splitters (1 male end, 2 female ends)
  • 3 headphone extenders (1 male end, 1 female end)
  • 1 tape to record on (90 min?)
  • 1 tape to master on (14-30 min)
  • 50 tapes to press
  • Cases, inserts, etc. for tapes
  • RCA cable for mixing

how to record for maximum radicality

  • Record basic backing tracks first on 2 tracks
  • Track 1: emphasis on drums (alex) and guitar (ben)
  • Track 2: emphasis on bass (max) and guitar (chris)
  • Sing during recordings, with emphasis on backing vocals
  • Record backing tracks to all songs under consideration before moving on to tracks 3 and 4
  • Record vocals onto tracks 3 and 4
  • Record lead and backing vocals simultaneously
  • Other instruments should be played while vocals are recording: organ, acoustic guitar, doubled guitar solo, tambourine, maraca, etc. We will need to experiment with these so they aren’t too loud on the track.
  • Mix 4 track down onto master tape via tape deck.
  • Dupe master tape via tape deck.
